Last winter was the best snow year on record for many Colorado ski
areas including Aspen and Steamboat.  With steady snowfall throughout
the winter and spring, many resorts enjoyed near record crowds.  Skier
visits in Colorado were the second highest ever, topping out at
12,535,913.  This year's chairlift survey does not reflect those near record
numbers.  With the drastic increases in energy prices, many ski areas are
delaying major improvements.

Telluride is installing their first Leitner-Poma brand chairlift in the much
anticipated Revelation Bowl.  This new inbounds bowl is located on the
backside of  Gold Hill.  The 2.2 million dollar chairlift will be a fixed quad
model with a vertical rise of 782 feet.  The north east facing bowl collects
snow and is being advertised as excellent on powder days.

Continuing with Colorado's abundance of  recent gondola installations,
Keystone is replacing the aging River Run lift.  The old Von Roll gondola
logged many hours since its debut back in 1986.  This new Doppelmayr
gondola will carry 8 passengers per car to the summit of Dercum
Mountain in under 12 minutes.  A midway station will be located about
one third up the line allowing skiers and riders to avoid the congested
slopes at the base.

Aspen Skiing Company is replacing the aging Shear Bliss double at
Snowmass with a new Leinter-Poma high-speed quad.  The old double
chair only operated on weekends and holidays, but this winter, the new lift
will operate daily.  The summit terminal will be extended allowing riders to
access the Cirque platter.

As Winter Park's base development grows, parking lots seem to move
farther from the slopes.  A new open air gondola will connect the current
parking facilities to the base area, eliminating bus routes.  The lift will be
engineered by Leitner-Poma and is expected to open by the holiday
season.
