Bowes Family Ski Hill
By Bill Fetcher

Years of operation: mid 1960s to the present.

This is a private ski hill, used by Bill Bowes' family and guests, yet is worth
mentioning as most everyone passing through Strawberry Park just north
of downtown Steamboat Springs sees it. This photo was taken near the
intersection of Routt County Road 36 and Amethyst Drive. The hill was
cleared in the mid-'60s and a rope tow installed along with floodlights for
night skiing. The tow, electric motor drive at the top, was imported from
Norway and its polypropylene (plastic) rope is still serviceable.

This hill can't be considered a "lost resort" as it's still in use. Information
supplied by Bill Bowes.
