"I used to live in Vail (69 to 79) and if I remember it right, VA bought Meadow Mtn. and
used it in a land trade with the USFS to expand their holdings up valley. Potato Patch was
part of the deal, I think."
- Wally A.

"I grew up south of Gypsum, CO, and our family skied at Meadow Mountain when I was
young.  I think I was 5 years old when I started skiing there (1966.)  I broke my leg skiing
on a slope called Sidewinder(?) trying to keep up with my dad when I was 8.  By the time I
was healed up and confident enough to go skiing again, I think Meadow Mtn. had been
bought out by Vail and shut down.  After that, I skied at Sunlight quite a bit and some at
Vail and Beaver Creek later, until it got too expensive.

I believe that one of the Meadow Mtn. owner's daughters, Carol Stutterheim was in my
grade in school at Eagle Elementary.  My parents knew her parents pretty well.  If I
remember right, they moved to Montana after they sold it.

We were disgusted that Vail bought it out and shut it down, because the price was so
reasonable.  My memory may not be right, but it seems to me that we paid $150 for a
family season pass, or we could go for a day for $5.  Fond memories (except for the
broken leg...)"
